We stopped using the word waterproof

Waterproof is a marketing word that has been stretched past the point of meaning. A hydrostatic head of 3,000mm can be called waterproof. So can 20,000mm. They perform nothing alike in real weather.

What we publish instead

Every HUPPA outerwear page now lists the hydrostatic head and the breathability number, plus the temperature comfort range from our own testing. No star ratings, no invented vocabulary.

We also publish the failure modes. If a jacket is brilliant at wind and rain but not suitable for wet snow at -5°C, we say so — plainly, on the product page, not in the fine print.

It turns out people are fine with honesty. Returns went down in the first season we tried it.
