Why the zipper goes under the chin

If you have ever looked at a finished HUPPA jacket and thought the neck felt a touch more comfortable than you expected, the answer is a small piece of fabric you will probably never notice.

The chin guard

Most jackets end where the zipper ends. Pull it all the way up, and a metal or plastic slider presses directly into your chin. One accidentally cold pull, and the whole neck of the garment is compromised by a 1cm gap.

Our chin guard is a 2x3cm piece of brushed interior fabric that sits behind the top of the zip. It means the metal never touches your skin, and when the zipper is fully closed, the neck seals cleanly against wind.

It took four prototype rounds to get the dimensions right. It adds roughly seven seconds to the assembly time of every jacket we make. We have never regretted it.
